NHL Weekend Notes

Leafs
Toronto beats Buffalo on Friday. Then the Leafs come from behind in dramatic fashion to beat the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Wow. A team that many (include me) said was dead last weekend, still has some mathematical chance to make the post season. As I have said too many times I hope they do but I am not getting my hopes up. In 4 days the Leafs have 2 games against Boston. If those games are won in regulation, then maybe I will concede they have a chance to play hockey in April.
Blackhawks
In a weird twist of fate, Chicago is also 4 points our of the last playoff spot. Could be an exciting last week of the season for the windy city faithful. The Hawks dropped one against Nashville on Saturday, but rebounded well with and overtime win versus St. Louis. Looks like the Calder trophy(for rookie of the year) could be in reach for Patrick Kane.
No Touch Icing
I agree with Don Cherry. Something has to be done before a defenseman in the NHL is killed trying to get to an iced puck. Minnesota Wild defenseman Kurtis Foster broke his leg on Wednesday when San Jose’s Torrey Mitchell pushed him into the boards while both men were going full speed. I agree with the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast team; it was intentional. I know Mitchell fells sorry Foster was injured, but if you look at the replay, you will see the intent. I think the NHL dropped the ball by not suspending Mitchell. Either way the Board of Govaners and the Competition Committee need to find a solution before someone gets killed.
