Party Like a Rock Star

Steven Tyler of AerosmithFor the early years of their existence, Aerosmith partied like the rock gods they were. The band did all the drugs you could think of and most predicted a trajic end. But against all odds, Steven Tyler is 60 years old today. Happy Birthday to the Demon on Screaming. Tyler is a prolific front man, rock icon, and during his high-energy stage performances, he usually dresses in bright colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his mic stand. Tyler’s main focus currently is working on material for Aerosmith’s 15th studio album, currently slated for release sometime in the second quarter of 2008.

A Little Different St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Happy St. Patty’s Day! (3 days early) Thought I would change it up a bit. Below is a song done by a great Irish/American band The Young Dubliners, “Foggy Dew“.

It is put to pictures of the Easter Rising in Dublin, Ireland of 1916. The rising was a rebellion by a combination of Irish patriots opposed to British rule. The rebellion failed after a week of fighting and sixteen of it’s leaders were executed by British firing squads. Despite this defeat, the Easter Rising led to another rebellion or Guerrilla War in 1919 which finally led to Irish independence in 1921.

Almost Time for the Dreaded Green Beer

So its just over 9 days until St. Patrick’s Day. Looking for some music to get you in the mood? Stop rightThe Young Dubs now and go to ITunes or a record store and check out the Young Dubliners. The Dubs have a sorta new album out With All Due Respect - The Irish Sessions Full of songs of love, war, emigration, incarceration and drinking. Now if that doesn’t get you in the mood, I don’t know what will. I’ve seen them in concert more than a few times. The Dubs always put on a good show. If you live on the west coast your chances to catch them increases. So get the beer ready, take the day off on Tuesday, and rock out with the Young Dubliners. Here is one of the tunes : If I should Fall From Grace with God

The Tragically Hip

Most of America has never heard of the Canadian band The Tragically Hip. The bands fans refer to them simply as The Hip. Well a close friend of mine took me to a show in DC over a year ago. If you like a good live band, who really get into the experience, then The Hip is worth the $15. It has been said that tone and content of their music comes from a traditional Canadian experience. You know hockey, family, geography, and history. But I wonder with the exception of hockey how Canadians and Americans differ? Not enough in my opinion. I say if your looking for a good old fashioned rock and roll experience, check out the Tragically Hip.
